Turn Off the Scoreboard

It’s probably safe to say that coaches are competitive. They want to win. They want to hold the record for the most____________, the best _________ or the greatest________!! Records inspire coaches, teams, and individual athletes to do whatever it takes to be better than the current best!

However, no coach wants to hold the record for the most times he forgot to take out the trash. No coach’s wife would want to hold the record for her mistakes either. So as important as it is to keep score in the sports world, the Lord reminds us that the opposite is true in our relationships:

“Love keeps NO records of wrongs ”-1 Corinthians 13:5

And here is our example:

God says, “I will forgive their iniquities, and remember their sins no more.” -Hebrews 8:12

God doesn’t use a scoreboard with us. He is not watching you to keep count of things that you do wrong because He has already defeated sin. He has already won through His death and resurrection- every victory, trophy, honor, recognition, and glory belongs to Him! God sees you, knows all about you, forgives you and loves you, and the more we grow in this truth, believing that through the cross Jesus doesn’t hold our sins against us, the easier it will be to shut down the scoreboard in our relationships with others.

Lord Jesus, thank You for Your complete and undeserved forgiveness! Please help us to love our husbands as your have loved us, and to have a marriage filled with grace! Amen!
