Write it on the Wall

Summer is flying by and even if life isn’t slowing down, you might be using these summer months to do some extra projects around the house- OR you might be unpacking boxes in a new house as your family relocates for a new coaching job! I just wanted to share a devotional with some “decorating tips” from the Bible- the verses for today always make me want to go shopping at Kirkland’s or Hobby Lobby! But my prayer today is that you will be encouraged to find creative ways to fill your home with reminders of God’s truth!

Sports programs have mission and vision statements, and these statements are meant to communicate the goals, purposes and values of the group- both to the outside world and to the coaches and players themselves! We as coaching families, have been given a mission too: to impact lives on the mission field of sports. God brought you and your husband together ON PURPOSE and FOR A PURPOSE, but even before the call to coach, our #1 purpose in life is to know the Lord. To seek Him personally, as a married couple and as a family. HE is the goal. You can write out your family purpose statement with your husband, even frame it and hang it in your home, because it’s easy to forget what it’s all about- in sports, in life and in marriage. There is a reason why coaches put the team’s mission statement on the walls of the locker rooms!

“You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” -Deuteronomy 6:5-9

Lord, please fill our hearts, minds and homes with Your truth and keep our focus on You. It’s so easy to look at circumstances and forget what life is all about. Knowing You. Loving You. And helping others to know You and love You too. Please help our family make a difference for You in the world of sports.
