We all know that timing is important- in sports, in marriage and in all aspects of life. When you are married to a coach, finding time together during the season can be a challenge, and finding the best time to have those serious conversations can be even more of a struggle.
There was a coach's wife who had a situation come up one day before a spring practice. At that time in their marriage, her husband was coaching two sports, the children were young and they had a miscommunication…. she was going to have to rearrange her whole day, but it was not the time or place to have a “discussion”. However, as the day went on, her frustrations became fuel for the fight, and when he finally got home she let him have it. She would say that this was not her best day as a coach’s wife, and that she struggles with the timing of important conversations.
Side note: I am that coach's wife. :-)
This issue might not be a weakness for you, but if it is, I hope you know that there is grace to help you in your time of need! (Hebrews 4:16) And it's not JUST the timing- it's also what we say and how we say it! And we will mess it all up at times. And we will lose it. And we will always have our Heavenly Father who is gracious and ready to forgive- but words do have the power to build up or to tear down, and once they are spoken we can’t take them back!
Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips!

Lord Jesus, thank You for the power of words. We pray that what we say to others, how we say it and when we say it will glorify You. And please remind us that we can always bring our needs and concerns to You in prayer. Amen!
